CNMI says ready to help Palau

3:42 pm on 7 April 2016

The Northern Marianas government says it's willing to extend a helping hand to Palau, which recently declared a state of emergency due to a severe drought.

CNMI officials say they are closely watching the situation and they have promised that it will act accordingly once the situation arises.

Palau has already appealed for urgent aid from Japan and Taiwan, including shipments of water.

Palau declared a state of emergency last month, the latest Pacific nation to do so as one of the worst ever El Nino-induced droughts in the region worsens.

The Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia have also declared states of emergency.
