A candidate from Papua New Guinea's ruling party has won the Samarai-Murua Open by-election.

Gordon Wesley from the People's National Congress party has been declared as the winner of the by-election by the Electoral Commission's returning officer.

Mr Wesley was the incumbent MP before his 2012 national election victory was declared null and void, after the National Court found him guilty of bribery.
