The French High Commission in New Caledonia has ensured a minimum air service to soften the effects of today's French airport strike.

The stoppage is affecting international and domestic flights in and out of Noumea for a 24-hour period until tomorrow morning.

A dozen domestic flights have been cancelled today, but a basic service to the outer islands is maintained on order of the High Commission.

The domestic airline says it is contacting the passengers concerned.
