The Fiji Women's Rights Movement has welcomed comments from Fiji's Prime Minister condemning violence against the nation's women and girls.

Frank Bainimarama told the World Humanitarian Summit in Turkey last week there is no justification for male-perpetrated violence or abuse.

The movement's executive director, Tara Chetty, says there is a need to reform institutions and practices that further marginalise women and girls.

She is calling on the government to strengthen its response to gender-based violence by allocating more resources towards justice services for women.
