The Northern Marianas Government is hoping the US Federal Government will extend its foreign worker programme by 10 years and set a higher cap at 18,000 people.

This comes as 1300 foreign workers and their families face expulsion because they exceed the new CW permit quota which has been set at 12,999 for this year.

The CNMI's US Congressman Gregorio Kilili Sablan said he would introduce a bill this week to extend the CNMI's contract worker programme for 10 years with a new cap set at 18,000 workers.
