The first candidates to signal their intention of running for the governorship of American Samoa will make a formal announcement this Saturday.

Faoa Aitofele Sunia and his running mate, Larry Sanitoa, have issued invitations for the launch of their bid for election in November.

This will be the second time that Faoa, a former lieutenant governor, has tried to win the Governor's chair.

He was unsuccessful in 2012, with Taufete'e John Faumuina Jr, as his running mate.

Mr Sanitoa has held one of the Tuala-uta seats in the House of Representatives for four terms.
