The price of food and goods in Tokelau decreased in the June 2016 quarter.

The territory's statistics office says the Consumer Price Index for the quarter decreased by 0.5 percent, continuing a downward trend over the past year.

It says prices for major food items such as sausages, potatoes, and cooking oil fell, as did the price of fuel, furniture and household equipment.

However, it says the price of canned fish, milk powder, biscuits and crackers have increased.

A series of isolated atolls only accessible by boat, the territory's Consumer Price Index is measured by the prices at the territory's three stores.
