Papua New Guinea have outclassed Japan by eight wickets to complete a clean sweep of victories at the East Asia Pacific Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Apia.

Japan slumped to 15 for 4 in the eighth over after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Mairi Tom, Veru Kila Frank and Ravini Oa each picked up two wickets for the Lewas, while Etsuko Kobayashi was the only batter to reach double figures with 31 not out as Japan scraped through to 105 for 9 from their 50 overs.

"I was just concentrating on building partnerships," she said.

Heavy rain during the lunch break - and after - meant that the match was reduced to 33 overs with a revised target of 88.

PNG's batting woes at the top of the order continued with the new-look opening pair of Kopi John and Brenda Hoi Tau managing only 11 runs between them.

Shizuka Miyaji snared both wickets to finish with figures of 2 for 18 off seven overs.

However Konio Oala compiled a brisk 52 not out from 60 deliveries and combined with captain Pauke Siaka, who finished unbeaten on 25, to get the Lewas home with 47 balls to spare.

PNG will represent the East Asia Pacific region at the Global Qualifier for the 2017 ICC Women's World Cup later this year.

The tournament in Apia concludes today with the final match between hosts Samoa and Japan.
