American Samoa look to Fiji Air for service

American Samoa's government is hoping to convince Fiji Airways to operate a service to the territory's capital, Pago Pago.

The United States and Fiji have a three-decades old that allows the Fijian carrier to stop in American Samoa, but it instead operated a Nadi-Honolulu service through Apia, in neighbouring Samoa.

At a meeting this week, the executive director of the American Samoa Visitors' Bureau, David Vaeafe, said Fiji Airways was keen on a service as it wanted to extend its network in the region.

Apart from services to Samoa, the Hawaiian Airlines service to Honolulu was the only international service from Pago Pago.

Vaeafe said if Fiji Airways was to start a service, it would open American Samoa to markets in Australia, New Zealand, the rest of the Pacific, and Asia.
