45 serious sexual charges in one month in Fiji

Dozens of people in Fiji have been charged with 45 different serious sexual offences just in the month of July.

In a statement Fiji's Director of Public Prosecutions Office said it charged 24 people with serious sexual offences last month, including 35 rape charges, three attempted rape and seven cases of sexual assault.

Thirteen victims in the cases were under the age of 18 while two people charged with offences were also under the age of 18 years.

The office said there were five sexual offences that occurred where the victims were related to the accused person.

There were five cases that were discontinued including one which was deemed a false complaint.
