Thirty five people have died on Fiji's roads so far this year.

The Director of Traffic Mahesh Mishra told the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation of the 15 pedestrian deaths four were children under the age of ten years.

Mr Mishra said their analysis suggests seven pedestrians were found to be at fault in those accidents.

But he said speeding and dangerous driving continue to be the main causes of fatalities on the roads.

Mr Mishra said parents should reinforce the issue of road safety to children with the school holidays just around the corner.

By November last year, 60 people had died on Fiji's roads, which was a five-year high.
