The Vanuatu authorities say major interim repairs to the runway of Port Vila's international airport are expected to be completed by late September.
They said they were being done with the assistance of the construction company Fulton Hogan to maintain the highest level of safety at the airport.
After some airlines suspended flights early this year, the government sought the assistance of the World Bank and others.
They said preparations for the full runway rehabilitation and airport improvements were on schedule, with preliminary designs received last Tuesday and now under review.
The contract is expected to be awarded by December 2016, with construction to begin in early 2017.
