Challengers line up for American Samoa governor

American Samoa's governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga and his lieutenant governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga, are been challenged by two teams in the November general election.

According to a list of candidates released by the Election Office, the incumbent is been challenged by the gubernatorial team of Faoa Aitofele Sunia and Larry Sanitoa as well as the team of Tuika Tuika Jr. and Salanoa Iuni Maeva Saveena.

For the territory's seat in the US House of Representatives, incumbent Congresswoman Aumua Amata is been challenged by four candidates.

There are 61 candidates vying for the 20 seats in the House of Representatives.

In releasing the list of eligible candidates, the chief election officer Uiagalelei Dr Lealofi Uiagalelei said any registered qualified elector can challenge the right of any person to be a candidate for office.
