Filming is about to begin in French Polynesia for a feature movie about the painter Paul Gauguin.

The French actor Vincent Cassel will play the role of the painter who made his first trip to Tahiti in the 1890s.

More than 1,000 people have been through the casting selection process but the producers are yet to disclose who the two Tahitian women are chosen to act as Gauguin's companions.

The film, directed by Edouard Deluc, is to be shot over seven weeks in Tautira, Teahupoo and on Moorea.

The film crew has been in church to hear locals sing in preparation of the movie.

Five years ago, another French feature film, Rebellion by Matthieu Kassovitz, was shot in French Polynesia.
