Fiji's Shadow Infrastructure Minister says he's concerned up to 100 staff working for a roads contractor might not have been paid in six months.

The Sodelpa MP Aseri Radrodro was reacting to the deportation of two expatriate workers for MWH global, a major contractor for the Fiji Roads Authority.

He says he was told the men were disputing not been paid since March, and the Immigration Department declared them personae non grata.

Mr Radrodro said he has asked the Infrastructure Minister, Parveen Bala, to explain but received no answer.

He said other staff have told him they haven't been paid.

"They have families to feed, children to send to school and bills to pay, this is true and there's no doubt something is basically wrong and someone is not saying the truth and it is about time that they should come out with the truth."

Aseri Radrodro saids the government's behaviour paints a negative picture of Fiji, just a week after prominent political figures were detained overnight by police.
