Salmonella outbreak prompts chicken cull in Tahiti

There has been a mass cull of chickens in French Polynesia because of a salmonella outbreak.

The public broadcaster says 16,000 chickens have been killed in Taravao after the presence of the bacteria was confirmed.

Another chicken farm in nearby Papara is under surveillance.

Five years ago, more than a dozen people were taken to hospital because of a salmonella outbreak on the island.
