11:27 am on 23 September 2016

Fresh from winning Olympic gold, the Fiji sevens team have been drawn in the same pool as Argentina, Canada and Wales in the opening round of the new World Series in Dubai.

It will be a new beginning for the men in white in December, with head coach Ben Ryan bowing out after their Rio success, while a number of the gold medal winning squad have taken up contracts overseas.

Applications to be Ryan's successor as head coach close at the end of this month, with an appointment expected in October.

Along with their historic success in Rio, Fiji are two time defending World Series champions and the reigning Dubai title holders.

New Zealand and Samoa are also on the lookout for new coaches and have been drawn together, alongside England and Russia, in Pool C in Dubai.

South Africa, USA, Scotland and a yet to be determined 16th team make up Pool B, with Australia, Kenya, France and Japan in Pool D.
