Penisimani Fifita has been named Tonga's new Minister of Internal Affairs by the country's Prime Minister.
A statement from 'Akilisi Pohiva's office says Mr Fifita was sworn into the role today.
He replaces Fe'ao Vakata, who was sacked after he threw a wine glass at one of his female directors.
Mr Fifita was elected into office in 2014 as a Tongatapu representative.
There had been speculation Mr Pohiva would assign the portfolio to one of the noble representatives to quell talk of an impending motion for a vote of no-confidence which never eventuated.
