The High Court in Lautoka in Fiji dropped yesterday's mitigation process for nine men convicted of raping Vilikesa Soko, who died of his injuries two years ago.
This comes as the lawyer acting for the eight policemen and one soldier wants the proceedings to be stayed.
FBC News says the prosecution has labelled the move as delaying tactics and says justice needs to be done.
The court is today due to hear their respective submissions.
FBC says if the court proceeds with the sentencing as scheduled for tomorrow, then the lawyer wants the sentence to be suspended pending the outcome of an appeal.
The nine have been free on bail while being suspended from duty on full pay since they were charged last year.
