Ati Wobiro was last week sentenced in the National Court to ten years in prison for misappropriation of provincial funds.

Wobiro's co-accused, the provincial administrator Modowa Gumoi, and the chief of Fly Care Foundation, Normal Carl May, were also sentenced to ten years in prison.

Yesterday in the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia refused bail applications filed on medical grounds by a lawyer representing all three convicted men.

The trio will be remanded at the Bomana prison, outside Port Moresby.

Wobiro is the fourth MP in the current parliamentary term to have been jailed for misuse of public money.
