A former prime minister of Papua New Guinea and the current governor of New Ireland province has confirmed he is seeking re-election.

Sir Julius Chan, who is 77, says age is no barrier and his mind is still strong enough to create change.

According to EMTV, Sir Julius says he still has work to do and he hopes the people of New Ireland will vote on what his provincial government has achieved.

He says it's the first province to implement and elderly and disabled pension, every health centre and school has solar lights, and the province has strong water, sanitation and health programme.
