The Government of Nauru has extended its deepest sympathies to the family of Transport and Health Minister Valdon Dowiyogo who passed away overnight.
President Baron Waqa said Mr Dowiyogo was a highly regarded cabinet minister and extremely capable member of Parliament.
He said Mr Dowiyogo served in his first cabinet from 2013 and carried out his ministerial duties with honour, integrity and diligence.
Mr Waqa said all of Nauru is sad and they grieve for his family, yet find peace in the knowledge that he is now enjoying good health in God's care.
Mr Dowiyogo, the son of former President Bernard, was 48 and was in Russia on government business when he passed away suddenly.
