Employment in Tahiti rises after years of decline

The French Polynesian government says in 2015 employment rose for the first time since 2007.

It said the number of people in paid employment went up by 0.5 percent after years of average annual falls of 1.7 percent.

Agriculture declined but there was job growth in retail and construction.

At the end of 2015, the average net monthly salary was $US2123.

A quarter had salaries of less than $US1350 a month while one quarter earned more than $US3067 a month.
