Samoa bank employee jailed for theft

A 38-year old former supervisor of the Samoa Commercial Bank, Rosalina Metala Ioka, has been serving a three-year jail sentence after she had admitted stealing $US60,000 from the bank's vault last July.

The offending took place at the bank's branch in the Vaitele industrial area.

The defendant stole the money after she had altered the amount already entered by one of the employees on the tally system that records the bank's daily transaction.

The presiding judge Mata Tuatagaloa said the offending was pre-meditated and the defendant had no arrangements with her former employer to pay back the money.

The court has ordered that she be eligible for parole after serving 18 months of her three-year jail sentence.
