American Samoa electrocution probe still not complete

1:35 pm on 2 February 2017

An investigation into last month's electrocution tragedy in American Samoa is yet to be wrapped up.

Three men died when a crane touched overhead power lines while lifting beams at a construction site at the Industrial Park Tafuna.

The men were employed by the Manu'a Store.

Store owner Genhall Manu'a Chen said assistance for the workers' families was still being finalised.

RNZI correspondent in Pago Pago reports it was the worst workplace accident the territory's seen.

Store employees have said the company was giving US$50,000 to each of the families to cover funeral arrangements, and was also providing a trust fund for the education of their children.

The Manu'a store at Tafuna closed after the incident and its employees have been assigned to other branches in Malaeimi and Pago Pago.
