Papua New Guinea have been well beaten in their opening match at the Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

The Lewas made a bright start, dismissing Bangladesh opener Sharmin Sultana for a duck in just the second over but half centuries from Sharmin Akhter and Fargana Hoque, and an unbroken stand of 55 for the seventh wicket from Salma Khatun and Shaila Sharmin, allowed Bangladesh to post 215 for 6 from their 50 overs.

Ravina Oa, Mairi Tom and Sibona Jimmy were the pick of the PNG bowlers, each picking up two wickets.

In reply, the Lewas lost openers Brenda Tau and Norma Ovasuru in the first three overs.

Captain Pauke Siaka and Tanya Ruma put on 57 runs for the third wicket before being dismissed for 32 and 20 in consecutive overs.

Konia Oala added 29 runs, including two sixes, but lacked support at the crease, with PNG's final six batters combining for just sevens runs.

The East Asia Pacific champions were dismissed for 97 in the 33rd over.

South Africa beat Pakistan by 63 runs in the other Group B encounter, with PNG taking on the latter in their next match on Friday.
