A Papua New Guinea MP, Wera Mori, has been arrested and charged with eight charges, including official corruption.

The charges include two counts of official corruption, armed robbery, obstruction of police duties, deprivation of liberty, and perverting the course of justice.

The Post Courier reported the charges come at the conclusion of an investigation started by the police and ombudsman commission in 2015.

The police said that Mr Mori colluded with the treasurer of his Chuave district, the Chimbu police commander and his tribesmen to disturb officers investigating the district treasury.

However, Mr Mori said he was the victim of a malicious cover-up by corrupt policemen closely associated to the district's former MP, Jim Nomane.
