Papua New Guinea rugby league champions Lae Snax Tigers will dedicate this weekend's Melanesian Club Championship Cup to the late Sir Henry Chow.

Chow was a long-time supporter of rugby league in PNG and franchise owner of Snax Tigers.

The Tigers will wear black armbands in Saturday's match against Fijian champions Nadi Aviators, with a minutes silence to be observed by both teams prior to kick off.

PNGRFL Chairman Sandis Tsaka said the match not only showcased the elite rugby league talent between the two countries but is also a celebration of Melanesian and Pacific heritage.

"Hopefully we can build and grow our 'people to people' relations through our shared love for rugby league," he said.

"I hope that as both teams assemble in Fiji for the match, that they take some time to appreciate each other's stories, customs and embrace our common heritage, learn from each other and hopefully form friendships that go beyond the football field and the weekend."

Ian Chow received the cup and said the family appreciated the gesture to honour Sir Henry Chow and will urge the side to play their best to return the Cup.

The Agmark Gurias won the inaugural Melanesian Club Championship Cup in Port Moresby last year.
