Fiji PM remains popular choice

Frank Bainimarama remains the most popular choice to be the prime minister of Fiji, according to a poll by the Fiji Times.

The poll of 982 people over three days by the international company Tebbutt Research found that Mr Bainimarama had 44 percent support.

In a poll taken in the days just prior to the 2014 election, Mr Bainimarama scored 49 percent.

In the latest poll Mr Bainimarama, the leader of FijiFirst, is supported by 54 percent of Indo-Fijians, 29 percent of iTaukei, and 48 percent of other ethnicites.

Voters' second preference was the Sodelpa leader Sitiveni Rabuka, with 11 percent, and the leader of the National Federation Party, Biman Prasad, had one percent.

Thirty-six percent of respondents said they weren't sure who they would support.

Mr Bainimarama gained an 82 percent approval rating during a Tebbutt Times poll seven months ago.

Poll respondents were asked to rate the performance of Mr Bainimarama and the then Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu.

Ro Teimumu scored 51 percent in terms of approval.
