Fiji's Rakiraki closed by flood waters

Fiji police say they are to assist people who are trapped in flooded areas in Rakiraki and have advised people to call them if they need assistance.

The FBC reported Rakiraki Town is still closed although flood waters have receded.

A flood warning remains in force for the downstream areas of Vatukacevaceva station and low lying areas and small streams adjacent to Rakiraki town.

Local businessman Azmat Ali told the Fiji Village website that flood waters entered his restaurant yesterday afternoon.

He said students as well as people who were shopping were all stranded in the town area.

Flood waters have also entered houses in Vunitogoloa village in Rakiraki.

More rain is expected today.
