Sport: Fiji target "superman" performance against All Whites

Fiji say they have to play like superheroes if they're to cause an upset and beat New Zealand in tonight's FIFA World Cup qualifying game in Wellington.

The All Whites won the first leg 2-0 in Lautoka on Saturday, after capitalising on two major Fijian errors.

The home side are six points clear at the top of their group and only need a draw tonight to advance to final stage of Oceania qualifying.

Christophe Gamel said they need all three points at Westpac Stadium and have to force New Zealand to play.

"To win this game on this field you have to be superman - to be like a group of supermen guys," he said.

"Honestly it will be difficult but if they enjoy it they will try. We don't know, if we can have a 0-0 at half-time which gives us a bit of hope for the future."

Meanwhile the All Whites are adamant there will be no complacency in their approach to the return leg.

Defender Andrew Durante said they're not thinking that way.

"We'll be going out there [and] we want to win, we want to win convincingly. We want to really put them under a lot of pressure," he said.

"We won't be sitting back and just praying for a draw, we want to really take the game to them, win this game and set ourselves up nicely for the next window."
