CNMI generator deal dumped

The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation in the Northern Marianas has cancelled its deal with a local company to buy a multi million dollar diesel engine.

The corporation's Gary Camacho said the utilities company's taken the recommendations of both the Senate and the House members, who urged a re-think of the purchase due to possible conflicts of interest between the board and the company involved, General Pacific Services Marianas Inc.

He said the utilities company would now begin efforts to acquire a replacement engine from another supplier.

Mr Camacho says the generator is needed to address growing demand with at least two resorts set to connect directly to the CNMI power grid.
