A Guam based company plans to set up a recycling plant in American Samoa.
South Pacific Distributors has opened a half a million US dollar warehouse at one of the industrial lots at Pago Pago International Airport.
The owner of the firm, which imports and distributes beverages, Frank Shimizu, said recycling had worked well in Guam and other key markets.
Mr Shimizu said he'd like to see its started in American Samoa by next year.
"In Guam we're very conservation-minded, at least this company is and we want to continue with that," said Mr Shimizu.
"We want to introduce perhaps not this year but next year for sure I'd like to bring my staff over and start recycling."
