French Polynesia's pro-independence party has confirmed its rift with France's Socialists as next month's election of a new French National Assembly nears.

One of the candidates of the Tavini Huiraatira party Moetai Brotherson has told Tahiti-infos that if elected, they won't sit with the Socialists because they have been let down by them.

Mr Brotherson said given that they wouldn't join the right they might associate themselves with Jean-Luc Melenchon's left Untamed France movement.

He said another option could be to form a new parliamentary group made up of overseas members who share similar views.

The Tavini's decolonisation effort at the United Nations are being thwarted by the Socialist government in France.
