The Pacific Guide to Statistical Indicators for Human Rights Reporting, which took three years to develop, was launched last week and aims to provide clear indicators of what governments should be reporting to UN treaty committees.

Senior Human Rights Adviser for the Pacific Community (SPC) Romulo Nayacalevu said it was written as a response to recommendations from the UN for more data, figures and information from the Pacific.

He says for a lot of Pacific governments such reporting can be a burden, but this toolkit will help.

"One of the biggest challenges for us as the government in terms of reporting is really what do you actually report on? And if you are reporting are the information relevant and do they go to what the experts sitting in Geneva would actually want?"

Mr Nayacalevu said the toolkit has been well received by governments in the Pacific.
