The Solomons Police Commissioner, Matthew Varley, congratulated the officers for their hard work, dedication and courage which he said the medals acknowledge.

Mr Varley said he was proud of the significant contribution the contingent has made in Darfur.

He said this was the first ever Solomon Islands contingent to receive the prestigious medal, proving their professionalism and capability in peacekeeping operations.

The five men are due to end their tour of duty in September.
