Fiji's National Federation Party says it will raise the minimum wage and bring in major health reforms if it gets into power after the election next year.

The party, which is one of two opposition parties in Fiji's parliament, revealed more of its manifesto at its party convention at the weekend.

The leader Biman Prasad said the NFP would nearly double the minimum wage to $US 2.40 an hour, more than double the number of basic food items which aren't subject to tax and establish a National Health Service to streamline the health system.

"It's about the bureaucracy that has set in place over the last ten years and the inability of that bureaucracy to deal with the services in our hospitals and health centres. The health services in this country have deteriorated to an extent where people have actually lost confidence in the system," said Biman Prasad.
