The American Samoa Telecommunications Authority says from this week it will start deactivating the mobile phones of customers who have not dialed their phones for some time.

This was announced by the Authority's interim CEO Puleleiite Li'amatua Tufele Jr. as is going through a serious cash flow problem.

Puleleiite says about 8,000 cell phone customers have not made calls on their phones, but have just been receiving calls on them.

He says there are about 11,000 active cell phone subscribers who contribute to the Authority's revenues.
