Despite the Ministry of Health stating that around 30 percent of Fijians have diabetes, there has been a lack of accurate data available to clinics.

Fiji's Diabetes Centre medical officer Lisi Finiasi said there hasn't been accurate numbers of how many people in the country actually have diabetes because clinics were working in isolation.

Dr Finiasi said the new registration would lead to better treatment and prevention of the disorder.

"When you know data you can present and say, oh because of this you need this many prosthetics and how and medication you need. Then we can increase the budget when we are looking at diabetes," said Lisi Finiasi.
