Chinese president congratulates Vanuatu's new president

The Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a congratulatory message to Vanuatu's new president, Tallis Obed Moses.

China's Xinhua news agency said that in his message, Xi said he is willing to work with Mr Moses to push forward the China-Vanuatu strategic partnership for greater development.

The two countries established diplomatic links in 1982.

Xi said relations between the two had maintained sound momentum of development since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

According to Xi, "fruitful results have been achieved in bilateral cooperation in such fields as trade, economy, agriculture, fishery and infrastructure".

Expansion of people-to-people and cultural exchanges were also described as having brought tangible benefits to the two countries.
