Cooks to begin hearing submissions on Crimes Bill

Public submissions to a select committee on the long-awaited Cook Islands Crimes Bill begin in parliament today.

The bill aims to replace the 1969 Crimes Act which is widely considered outdated.

At least three lawyers are expected to make submissions on penalties and sentencing practices.

The clerk of Parliament John Tangi said a submission already before the select committee had been made by the Te Tiare Association representing the country's LGBTI community.
