CNMI casino contract manager jailed for 6 months

The project manager for the main contractor on the Saipan casino in the Northern Marianas has been sentenced to six years jail.

Yuqing Zhao from construction firm MCC International pleaded guilty to unlawfully employing aliens.

He had been charged with harbouring illegal Chinese workers.

The charge of harboring illegal aliens, a felony offence, carried a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, but Zhao was able to avoid that by reaching a plea deal with the government.

The workers Zhao and five others harboured entered the CNMI as tourists but later worked on the Imperial Pacific International construction site on Saipan.
