Its shadow treasurer, Ian Ling-Stuckey, said the country's economic story was one of negative growth after allowing for the increasing population.

He said employment was a key way of spreading growing wealth among the wider population.

Mr Ling-Stuckey said the opposition would ensure better opportunities for farmers by improving extension services and infrastructure.

He said this would include such things as a comprehensive response to the coffee-pod-borer threat and improving access to credit.

Mr Ling-Stuckey said they would create a more business-friendly environment for small and medium-sized business enterprises.
