According to the ship's owners, the four-year-old schooner, Fiji Siren, struck an object in the early hours of the morning that ruptured the hull.

The Thai-based company said its crew fought through the night to pump water from the hull, but the decision was eventually made to evacuate the ship.

All passengers and crew made it to shore.

It is not known what the ship struck, nor is it known what environmental impacts the sinking may have caused.
