Sport: 'Ikale Tahi look to pick off Brave Blossoms

Tonga plan to stick to their strengths in the first test of their Northern rugby tour against Japan in Toulouse tomorrow morning.

The 'Ikale Tahi made a lot of mistakes in a 27-24 defeat against the Barbarians last weekend but coach Toutai Kefu expects his players to be a lot better with a game under their belts.

The Kingdom are ranked three places below the Brave Blossoms at 14th in the world but have won the past four tests between the two countries.

Toutai Kefu said it was not secret to other teams how they intend to play.

"We're physical, we're direct and that's what we're going to try and do. Our biggest problem over the years has been trying to do that at speed and trying to do that for long duration."

"There's a big fitness element to the way we want to play so that's what we're going to try and do is just to be relentlessly direct and be physical in the way we approach the game and played at a lot higher speed compared to the past, Kefu said."

Tonga Rugby is currently without a proper administration after the TRU board was declared null in void last month by the country's Supreme Court.

But Toutai Kefu said the players are not letting off-field problems distract them and will always put a competitive team on the field that's passionate about playing for their country.
