The public broadcaster said the health service acted after registering seven cases in the past week which proves that the virus has now established itself in the community.

It said the new infections were concentrated in the south of Wallis.

So far this year, the territory has had 15 cases of the mosquito-borne disease.

Laboratory tests in Noumea were expected to determine the type of dengue the seven patients have contracted.

People are advised to try to destroy the breeding areas of the mosquitoes.
