A woman involved with reforestation techniques in Trinidad is one of hundreds of delegates from around the world presenting ideas at this week's CIVICUS meeting in Fiji.

CIVICUS is the global meeting of civil society groups and this is the first time it has been held in the Pacific.

Climate change is one of the issues the organisers, the Pacific NGO umbrella group PIANGO, wants to focus on, and they have had delegates planting mangroves.

Trinidadian Akilah Jaramogi, who helped plant mangroves, said her usual work is in the hills of Trinidad where they have been trying to curb the fire risk by planting trees.

"The area where I am in Trinidad it was once declared a fire climate zone and since 1997 we have been fire free with our initiative of planting trees and cutting fire breaks and keeping the fires out and mobilising the community to be fire guardians and tree planters and so on," she said.
