The announcement follows the provision of the same training and a boat to Niue police in October, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Maritime New Zelaand.

Niue police chief Tony Edwards says the new vessel marks the first time Niue has had an immediate first response capability.

Tokelau is scheduled to receive its boat and training next year.

The territory also expects to have a new custom-built cargo vessel operational by early 2018.
