The overseas minister Annick Girardin has told the One Planet climate change summit in Paris that the Fund would be increased and extended to all French territories.

This year, the Fund disbursed $US70 million for 17 projects in the French Pacific

In October, the minister said the Fund would be discontinued but an amendment by a French Polynesian politician Maina Sage last month reinstated payments for 2018.

The minister wanted to disestablish the Fund, suggesting other ministries and agencies should share climate change responsibility .

Mrs Girardin now said the revived Green Fund will double in size and make payments to French territories other than the ones in the Pacific.

The initial funding attribution was made in response to the 2015 Paris climate change conference.

French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna don't have access to the UN Green Fund because they are not independent countries.
