The first Pacific senior management role has been established at New Zealand's Auckland War Memorial Museum.

Olivia Taouma has been appointed the Teu le vā manager, a Samoan term meaning to 'nurture the relationship'.

Ms Taouma said her role is to build on the Pacific Dimension framework for the museum, which was established in late 2012.

This includes nurturing relationships with communities and managing Pacific arts and artefacts.

"It's quite exciting to be coming into an institution that is not just honouring, but is actually putting to action their words and really bringing to life their aspirations of what they want for the Pacific Dimension within the Auckland museum, she said."

Olivia Taouma began her work at the museum this week.
